M.Sc. Physics: Inter Collegiate Physics Fest: Phoenix-2K18

St Philomena College, PG Department of Physics had organized an Inter Collegiate Physics Fest – ‘Phoenix-2K18’ on 19th February 2018.  Prof. Leo Norohna, Principal, St Philomena College was the president of the function. Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Chairman, Centre for P.G. Studies and Research of St. Philomena College was the chief guest of the function. Dr A.P. Radhakrishna, H.O.D of Physics was the guest of honor. Dr E. Deepak D’Silva, Coordinator of P.G. Physics escorted the dignitaries on to the dais. The inaugural programme began with invoking God’s blessing by Ms Sahana and group. The president inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

The president of the programme in his address said, “every minuscule circumstances of our life has its own importance. The little incidences may change the direction of life and may take us to the pinnacle of achievement”

The chief guest in his address said, “The post graduation Departments includes Arts, Commerce and Basic Sciences, and all these individual fields are important in the growth of human society. A student should concentrate in wholesome development by participating in multiple skills oriented activities along with his studies.”

“The study of Physics is the unique and special subject among all the subjects. The ideas and technologies of Physics are entangled in our day today life. There are lots of career opportunities for the basic science student”, said by Dr A P Radhakrishna in his address.

In his address to the students the Coordinator of the Department Dr Deepak D’Silva said, “Everyone born with skills and when one identify and develop these skills can have a better life”

There was a felicitation programme for Ms Lavita Joyline Martis, the alumna of M.Sc. Physics (2015-17 Batch), who had cleared KSET examination conducted during the year 2016. Ms Roopashree B R (the alumna of 2015-17 Batch) and Ms Soumya K (alumna of 2014-16 Batch) were also felicitated for securing highest marks in Electronics specialization in the M.Sc. Physics degree examination. Dr E. Deepak D’Silva, Coordinator of P.G. Physics introduced the achievers to the audience.

Master of Ceremony of the programme was Ms Poornima S. Ms Vidyasaraswathi welcomed the gathering and Ms Vageeshwari M proposed the vote of thanks.

Eleven teams of various UG and PG Colleges under Mangalore University actively participated in the following events.

In the valedictory function Presidential address was delivered by the principal of the college Prof.  Leo Norohna. He said, “Usually the science students have special capabilities to excel in any of the challenges which they face.” The chief guest Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro in his address said, “One need not to know hundred things in life, but whatever little he know he should know it adequately, that makes the difference in life.”

Ms Rachana welcomed the gathering. Mr Sunilkumar AC proposed vote of thanks. Ms Sindhu was the master of ceremony.

In UG section the Championship was bagged by St Agne’s College, Mangalore and Runner Up award was won by the students of Vivekananda College, Puttur. In PG section the Championship was bagged by Alva’s College, Moodbidri and Runner Up award was won by the students of St Aloysius College, Mangalore.
