The P.G. Department of Physics, St Philomena College, Puttur had organised a National Level Workshop on “Quantum field theory and Applications”, on 28th March 2017.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr H S Mani, adjunct Professor, Chennai Mathematical Institute by lighting the lamp. Prof. K.B. Vijayakumar, Department of Studies in Physics, Mangalore University was the Chief Guest. Very Rev. Fr Alfred J. Pinto, Correspondent of St Philomena College was the president of the inaugural function, Prof. Leo Noronha, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Chairman of P.G. Studies and Campus Director of St Philomena College were present as the guest of honours, Dr A.P. Radhakrishna, H.O.D of Physics Department and Dr E. Deepak D’Silva, Coordinator of P.G. Physics were also present on the dais.
The inaugurator of the function Dr H S Mani delivered keynote address and said, “whichever may be the field of profession, one has to strive hard to achieve excellence”
Chief Guest of the function K.B. Vijayakumar said in his address, workshop on these topics are arranged rarely in the institutions, so he congratulated the department for organizing this workshop. He also mentioned his close association with the P.G. Physics Department of the College. He told, learning process should be continuous and it is essential.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro said that, as we reach high in terms of intellect, profession etc.; it is important at the same time that we become humble and down to earth.
“The man to become human both material as well as spiritual aspects should grow in harmony”, said by Very Rev. Fr Alfred J Pinto in his presidential address.
Dr E Deepak D’Silva, Convener of the workshop welcomed the gathering and Dr A P Radhakrishna proposed the vote of thanks.
After the inauguration various session were held. In the first session Dr K.B. Vijayakumar, conducted the lecture on the topic ‘Basics of Quantum Mechanics and Quantization of Schrodinger wave equation’. The second and third sessions were executed by Dr H.S. Mani on the topic ‘Quantization of electromagnetic Field’ and ‘QFT Applications in Quantum Optics’. The Last session was carried out by Dr Jijio P.U., Assistant professor & HOD of Physics, Government college, Kasaragod on the topic ‘QFT applications in Particle physics’
Dr E Deepak D’Silva, Convener of the workshop, expressed deep gratitude to the resource persons, sponsors, funding agencies and all participants and all who had involved directly and indirectly in materializing the workshop.
