Workshop on Consumer Awareness

DSC_0513‘The Consumer Protection Act, 1986 was enacted to provide quicker access to redressal of consumer grievances. No court fee is required to be paid to the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum and there is no need to engage a lawyer to present the case’, said Mrs. Asha Shety, President, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum.

After inaugurating one day workshop on Consumer Awareness for the members of selected Stree Shakthi Groups of D K District, organized jointly by Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs of DK District, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Department of Legal Meteorology, District Federation of Consumer Organizations, Department of Women and Child Development and Suraksha Consumer Forum of St Philomena College Puttur on December 17, 2015 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall of the College, she said, it is the duty of every organization to satisfy consumers by providing quality goods and services at right place, time and in right quantity at a fair price.

Mr. A B Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner of D K District presided over the function and said, ‘Consumer exploitation can only be brought down if consumers as whole stay united and develop the habit of questioning the malpractices used by the sellers.’

The Chief Executive Officer of DKZP Mrs. P I Srividya, President of D K District Federation of Consumer Organisations Mr. M J Salian and Campus Director of St Philomena College Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, participated as chief guests.

In technical sessions, Mr. Timmarayappa, Assistant Controller, Legal Meteorology gave demonstrations on ‘False Weights and Measurements’, Dr. Nityananda Pai of Puttur delivered a talk on ‘Misleading Medical Advertisements’ and Mr. Raghavendra Rao, Advocate, Surathkal spoke on the topic ‘Awareness of Women Consumers’.

Ms. Sahana Rao and team performed the prayer. Dr. Dase Gowda, Deputy Director, Department of Food, Civil Supplies and consumer Affairs welcomed the gathering. Mr. Vishnu P Nayak, Secretary, D K District Federation of Consumer Organisations proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. Dinakara rao, Convenor, Suraksha consumer Forum compered the programme.
