St. Philomena College, Puttur is affiliated to Mangalore University and is managed by the Catholic Board of Education, Mangalore. Puttur, until the 1950s was an unheralded place in the coastal Karnataka region. The College was founded in 1958 with express objective of educationally empowering the people of Puttur. Saldanha was born on April 27, 1964 at Kirem near Kinnigoly. He had his formal education in his village. Since his young days, he nursed great desire to serve the Kingdom of God for which he was enrolled in St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore.
