The programme was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
The inaugurator of the programme, Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal of the College said, “It is said that a ‘healthy body will have a sound mind’, in accordance with this idea Yoga is given high prominence world over. Even our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed the need for yoga learning in schools and colleges. This is considered as an ancient art which keep the body away from ailments and certain disorders”.
The Head Master of the St Philomena High School Mr. Oswald Rodrigues said, “The practice of yoga strengthens the body and sharpens the intellect. It teaches the evolution of the individual by the development of self-discipline and self awareness. Anyone irrespective of age, health circumstances of life and religion can practice yoga”.
He further said, “Buddha and Mahaveera practiced spiritual yoga which brought them closer to God. It creates an ability to be still and meditation creates inner peace is experienced.”
NCC Officer Lieutenant Johnson David Sequeira, First Officer Naresh Lobo, Navy Officer Clement Pinto, Air force Officer Roshan Sequeira, NCC Retired Chief Officer Purushotham were present.
A workshop was conducted to commemorate the Yoga day in St Philomena College participated by the NCC Cadets.
