M.Sc. Physics: Report on Fun Physics- Science Model Exhibition

On 29th January 2020, the Department of PG Physics, St Philomena College Puttur in collaboration with the Government First Grade College Vittal had organized one day Fun Physics- Science Model Exhibition at D.K. Higher Primary School Kodangai. 20 Students of II M.Sc. Physics as well as 2 students of I M.Sc. Physics actively participated in this programme. During this programme 3 faculty members supported them.

The formal function commenced at 10.00am with the prayer. Mrs Saroja, Headmistress of D. K. Higher Primary School Kodangai was the president of the function and Dr E Deepak D’Silva was the chief guest of the Programme.

Mrs Saroja in her message said that; todays’ programme will give her students the opportunity to expose themselves to the innovative learning methods through science models, fun experiments and PPT presentation. She also informed that, in order to build interest and curiosity in science among the students, every Wednesday in the school they promote simple science experiments and discussions.

Dr E Deepak D’silva said that, MSW students have more responsibility towards building a good and healthy society. The programmes like rural camp will improve capabilities and leadership qualities among the students.

After the formal programme Physics students demonstrated various models like Soil moisture detector, Hydraulic lift JCB, Automatic Street lights using IR sensors, Centrifugal water Pump, Waste Collecting Boat, Ultrasonic SONAR, Automatic irrigation system using Arduino, Newton’s Cradles etc to the school students. The school students watched the Sun using Solar Eclipse glasses and also they got the opportunity to do the experiments.

Then Ms Priyalatha M and Ms Delvita Veigas presented the power point presentation on ‘scientific reason behind some of the natural phenomena’. Thushara R B conducted Science Quiz and Memory test and other fun games to entertain students.

Atlast the programme came to an ending by rendering thanks giving. For the success of the programme all the faculty members of the PG Physics department guided and motivated the students.
