Dakshina Kannada District Federation of Consumer Organizations (R), Suraksha Consumer Forum of St Philomena College and Souharda Consumer Club of Government Pre University College, Kombettu, Puttur jointly organized an Interaction Programme on ‘Officer-Consumer’ on 20th December, 2014 at SJM Hall, St Philomena College.
The inaugurator, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director and Chairperson of PG Studies and Research during the occasion said, “We are always concerned about our rights, but we should also remember that we have certain responsibility to discharge.”
He further said, “We have to look into corruption happening around us, try to take measure to correct this unlawful activity and bring about the change in the society.”
Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal of the college in his presidential address said, “Man is a social being and we need to work together in the society. Therefore mutual benefits are shared. In the present society consumers are taken for a ride, it is very important for the consumers to be aware of their rights. This is the platform where many of the consumers will be guided.”
The officials of three Government Departments have participated in this programme. Mr. Kulle Gowda M. T., Tahashildar of Puttur Taluk presented the nature and working of the Revenue Department. Mr. Abdul Khadar, Sub-Inspector of Police, Puttur Town Police Station, spoke about the functioning of the Police Department. Mr. jayakara B. Shetty, Statistical Officer and Mr. Timmappa Patali, Traffic Controller of KSRTC Puttur Division, presented about the working and the facilities available in KSRTC. The members of Suraksha Consumer Forum and Souharda Consumer Club raised questions to the Government officials relating to the facilities available to the consumers. Mr. M. J. Salian, President, Dakshina Kannada District Federation of Consumer Organizations (R), moderated this interaction programme.
Mr. Vishnu P. Nayak, Secretary, D.K. District Federation of Consumer Organizations, Prof. Vishnu Bhat, Vice Principal, Dr A.P. Radhakrishna, HOD of Physics, Ms, Anjali Rai, HOD of Journalism of the College were present in this programme.
Ms. ShreeRaksha, Ms. Chinmai, Ms. Shruti and Ms. Chaitra of I B.Com with their prayer song invoked God to shower his choicest blessings. Prof. Dinakar Rao, Director of Suraksha Consumer Forum welcomed the gathering. Ms. Sushmitha of lI B.Com proposed the vote of thanks. The Master of the Ceremony was Mr. Kotyappa Poojari, Convener of Souharda Consumer Club.
