One-day Workshop on “Science Writing and Communication”

Department of Physics (PG and UG) in association with A.I.R Mangalore and Rotary Club Puttur had organized one day workshop entitled “Science writing and Communication” on 6th September 2018.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director, St Philomena College was the President, Mrs S. Ushalata, Assistant Director, Akashavani, Mangaluru was the Chief Guest. Mr P. Vaman Pai, President, Rotary Club, Puttur and Mr A. Ramachandra Bhat, Retired Manager, L.I.C. Udupi were guests of honour.
Chief Guest Mrs S. Ushalata said; students should possess natural instinct to observe, wonder and reason the nature around them. Then only the scientific innovations may happen.
Mr P. Vaman Pai in his address said; only dedication and hard work can take the person to the greater heights.
There was book release programme on the occasion. The book “Vineela- Prof. Adyanadka Bhat Memorial volume”, edited by Mr A. Ramachandra Bhat was released by the dignitaries.
President of the function Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro said; one can learn many things only through keen observations. Therefore observation, reasoning, writing, reading, computing and communication skills are very important tools that every scientist should cultivate.
Dr A.P. Radhakrishna, H.O.D. Physics welcomed the dignitaries and guests. Dr Chandrashekhar, Department of Physics (U.G.) was the master of ceremony. Dr Deepak D’Silva, Co-ordinator of P.G. Physics thanked the gathering.
After inauguration there were different sessions from resource persons. Dr Mohan Talakalukoppa, Senior Scientist, National Research Centre of Cashew, Puttur; delivered a talk on “Mehodology and aim in science writing”.
Dr Ajakkala Girish Bhat, Principal and Kannada Professor, Government first Grade College, B.C. Road; gave a talk on “Disadvantages of the language exclusion in Professional Courses”
Dr Lakshmeesha Rao B., Department of Physics, SDM college, Ujire conducted a session on “Educational Institutes’ and corporate organizations’ responsibility in science writing, research and publication”.
Science articles were invited from students of different colleges for the workshop. Audio recording of these articles were done during the workshop from respective student so that the recordings can be broadcasted later in Mangaluru akashavani.
Guests, Students, teachers from different organizations and institutions were present for the workshop.
